Saynt Algorithm Mortem Vinyl
This project was based on a concept album I came up with.
I decided to create my own fake grunge band named SAYNT. I designed their band aesthetic and molded this concept album around their identity.
Branding, Photography
Algorithm Mortem is a critique on our technologically addicted society. The algorithm has a deep control on our minds and rules the way we interact with our environment. The imagery in the vinyl reflects that, showing figures consumed by a deep red glow emenating from their screens, missing the beauty that lies behind it.
The Concept Album
For my album concept I tapped into what mentalities I felt encapsulated a ‘grunge’ band. The best one that came to mind was the idea of ‘pushing back against the system’.
The Process
The photographs used in this album has a very personal meaning to me because I took them myself. While studying abroad in Rome, I took my camera with me everywhere. Looking at pictures that I took I noticed how prevalent screens were in my photos. I particularly love the cover photo because it truly shows how addicted we as humans are to our phones. Even nuns, who vowed their lives to their god were on their phones in church. It is a very powerful photo.
Imagery
This project really helped me hone in my concept building and branding skills. I kept a level of consistency an aesthetics in each aspect of this project and had so much fun creating my own entity in the band SAYNT.
Most of all, I loved being able to use my own photography in my work.
